Best operating system for mobile

Mobile is one of the fastest growing sections of the gaming industry as a whole, which also means there’s never been more choice when deciding on a smartphone or other mobile device that suits your every need.

While key factors like high-resolution display, processing power and battery life are all equally important to consider when making the choice for your next smartphone, This post is all about operating systems for mobile – otherwise known as mobile OS.

Let’s start with the basics. A mobile OS is the main software that runs your smartphone, you know, the thing that you have to update from time to time. Simply put, it’s the thing that determines how your phone runs and how you use it.
There are three main OS currently running the market: Google Android, Apple iOS and Windows OS, and each has its own unique feel and functionality. So, let’s take a look at the pros and cons of the best mobile operating systems on the market.

Google Android
So, we’re going to kick things off with Google’s Android OS because, regardless of functionality, it’s by far the most popular operating system on the planet with over 85% market share. It’s actually pretty crazy how much of a monopoly the Android has, so there must be a reason for it.

With Android devices, users can customise multiple home screens for different uses, with a ton of cool apps and widgets ready to download. These widgets aren’t just for show either; they genuinely offer a quicker, more convenient way of accessing key information and programs on your phone within a few short clicks. This makes it really easy to organise the things that you genuinely care about using.

The other thing about Android is that it’s open source. So, if you’re a developer of apps or content, there are very few licensing restrictions for what you can share with the world. Pretty cool, huh?

Apple iOS
Google’s main contender in the mobile OS market is definitely Apple. Most people will be well aware of the unique look and feel of the Apple iOS, which is the quality and type of the brand’s incredibly clean and simple aesthetic.

Beyond this, Apple’s App Store definitely offers the most choice of downloadable programs for your smartphone, many of which are completely free. In fact, many developers still take an ‘Apple-first’ approach when developing new apps, so literally hundreds of new downloads are released every single week.

The other really cool thing about the Apple iOS offers is the multiple ways you can interact with it. It’s a responsive little thing that memorises your thumbprint for easy password recognition, listens to voice commands and allows you zoom in and out just by pinching! We shouldn’t take that last one for granted.

Windows OS
Even though Google and Apple are running the show right now, there’s a lot of promise for the future of the Windows OS – the one you probably recognise for the tile-based home screen.

The Windows OS has actually come on leaps and bounds since they released a revamped version in 2010 and continues to develop year after year. Like Apple, it does boast its own look and feel, probably more so than the slightly bland Android system. As you’d expect, it’s also highly optimised for key Microsoft programs such as Internet Explorer and Office, which might be enough to sway devoted Microsoft fans from the other two big guns.

Thanks for Reading. Hope to see you again in next post.
